We showcase examples of farms with a positive impact on the landscape
What is our aim?
Consumers: Through the Krajina živá portal, we want to present nature-friendly farming to the general public and so increase consumer interest in local food produced with respect for the environment. To this end, we have created a map of responsible farmers, which we are constantly expanding with new businesses. We also showcase the best examples of good practice through the award Living farm.
Farmers: In the Krajina živá programme we also focus on the farmers themselves, who care not only about producing food but also about the state of the landscape they manage. Our aim is to build a community connecting farmers, conservationists, naturalists and other interested groups. Krajina živá therefore also serves as a platform for learning from each other and sharing experience, as well as for solving practical and bureaucratic problems.
Are you a nature-friendly farmer? Let us know about you!
So that we can find out about your farm, we have prepared a simple application form, which you will find below. If your work matches our vision of nature-friendly farming, we will create a profile for you on our portal.
For farmers who, in addition to a basic farm profile, would like long-term promotion and visibility for their specific benefits to the landscape, we have created an award called Living farm. Through it, every year we highlight several farms that bring special benefits to the landscape. You can find the profiles of farms recognised so far in the menu under Farma živá – Award-winning farms.
To apply for Farma živá, please fill in the same application form, but at the end tick the box agreeing to a visit to your farm by the expert panel. Unfortunately, as our capacity is limited, we can only visit a few selected farms each year.
Would you just like to join our training and other activities?
If you are just starting out with nature-friendly farming, or you are not interested in creating a profile but would like to take part in Krajina živá's educational activities, write to us at info@krajinaziva.sk. As well as farmers, we warmly welcome students and professionals in agriculture, ecology, environmental science and nature conservation to our training, as well as anyone from other fields who is interested in or enthusiastic about nature-friendly farming.

The Krajina živá team

Karolína Gelatičová
She studied systematic biology and environmental ecology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University. She is the initiator and coordinator of the Krajina živá programme within the LIFE Sub-pannonic project. She is interested in applying traditional and regenerative approaches in agriculture and works on creating opportunities to support people who farm in a nature-friendly way. In her words, the stability of the landscape and the state of biodiversity lie in the hands of farmers – the shapers of the landscape.

Jakub Cíbik
He studied ecology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University. He works as PR manager on the LIFE Panalp project, which focuses on saving rare meadow habitats and restoring traditional grazing in cooperation with local farmers. He raises awareness of the links between agriculture and nature conservation through documentary films and articles for the magazine Doma v záhrade. He also coordinates the expert initiative ESSENCE Slovakia, which, among other things, advocates better Common Agricultural Policy rules from the perspective of biodiversity and nature-friendly farmers.

Katarína Klimová
She studied biology, specialising in plant taxonomy, at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University. She is interested in permaculture, natural gardens and, above all, herbs and making things from natural materials. She sees great potential in connecting farmers with experts from the conservation community. Each of us should have our own trusted farmers, so that we know the story of the food we eat every day. That is also what we strive for at Krajina živá.
