Sliepky z karavanu received the Farma živá award in 2025.
The farm lies in the village of Moravské Lieskové, tucked away in a small basin between the hills and forests of the White Carpathians, not far from Nové Mesto nad Váhom. On 12 hectares, fruit growing is combined with free-range hens, creating a unique farming system.
Production and processing
The hens roam freely and help protect the hazelnut and fruit orchard naturally. Besides hazels, they have also planted plums and apricots. Both the eggs and the hazelnuts are used in their own Poem bakeries in Piešťany: https://poem.sk/sliepky-z-karavanu/.
Caring for the landscape and biodiversity
The farm uses mosaic mowing, and the whole orchard is extensive, organic and free of pesticides and artificial fertilisers. They are also building water retention measures through vegetation and fruit tree planting (the land was originally conventionally farmed arable land.
